A NEW PLAY BY AMOS ALTMAN
Presented by THEATRE ENCOUNTER
In this uniquely Albertan farce, inspired by “bedroom farces” such as One Man, Two Guvnors and Three’s Company, an enigmatic drifter by the name of Oakley arrives at the rural home of Dick Bigman, with the goal to swindle the lavish ranch for as much as they can get. The innuendo reaches new heights when Oakley finds themself the romantic object of the rancher’s wife, servants, and maybe even the lovely farmer’s daughter.
In this new performance experiment, the Encounter company explores the intersection of Farce and Expressionism, to see how their distinctive approach to physical performance can inform a comedic work. Discoveries from this ‘workshop’ presentation will inform further development of the script in 2026 and 2027.
RODE HARD & HELL BENT FOR LEATHER was presented as a double bill with our 2025 Stranger Studio presentation, IN THE WINDOWLIGHT, March 26-29, 2025 at the cSpace Studio Theatre (Calgary, AB)
