A physical, visual and musical exploration of the ways in which the body is monetized, commodified and consumed for entertainment, FLESH FOR FANTASY is an interdisciplinary theatre experiment combining traditions of burlesque, opera and expressionism. With collaborative design by rising filmmaker Emil Agopian and Canadian painter Aaron Sidorenko, the Encounter company performs sex, gender and the body in all its grotesque and absurd magnificence.
FLESH FOR FANTASY premiered March 4, 2020 at the Studio Theatre @ cSpace King Edward (1721 29th Avenue SW Calgary), playing to oversold audiences for six nights.
FLESH FOR FANTASY is the second in Theatre Encounter’s four-project exploration, THE FLESH TRAJECTORY. This multi-year project began in 2018 with KLIMT’S PLAYTHINGS, which examined the nude figure in art and history.
